Chris Wall, from Middlesbrough, and Mark Green, from Stockton-on-Tees – who both play their golf at Middlesbrough GC – secured the pairs title, while Andy Clements, from Cranleigh, Surrey, the membership manager at West Sussex’s Cottesmore GC, was the proud winner of the individual competition, both of which were played out over three of Dubai’s top courses: the Wadi by Faldo Course at the Emirates Golf Club; Dubai Creek Golf Club; and the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Points were awarded according to daily placings

The stunning, all expenses paid trip to the Emirate – which included return flights and six nights half board accomodation at a five star hotel – was reward for their initial efforts in battling their way through their local league and regional final during 2012.

League To Dubia

We ask Poodle and Sub70 what golfers – both men and women – can look forward to wearing in 2013.

They are both relatively new to the golf fashion market, but both Poodle, whose HQ is in Amsterdam, and Sub70, based in Hampshire, are brightening up the fairways.

We talked to Poodle founder Wendy Byrne and Sub70′s Damon Rafi about what they are looking forward to this year.

“You know what it’s like when you’re packing to go on a golf trip, you not only want to look good on the course but you also need a change of clothes for the evenings out and with the measly baggage allowance on offer by some airlines it’s tough getting the right balance.

Imagine my delight when I received the package of three shirts, one cardigan, a sleeveless cardigan and a pair of trousers through from Sub 70 apparel and found that they weighed about the same as a pair of Chinos from a well known high street chain. ”

Over the past decade, I have travelled to over 30 countries, 47 of the 50 US states, taken over 1000 flights and spent in excess of $1Million all in an attempt to cash in on the lucrative dream of becoming a golfing superstar on the US PGA Tour.

I have been the rookie on tour and I also became a seasoned traveler, so my stories vary from naivety and ignorance, to words of wisdom. Even if you find the course is shut, there are plenty of golf driving ranges with more than adequate protection from the wind and rain. Go hit 50 balls. Keep sharp. Engrain the muscle memory. It takes so long to tune it in but so little to tune it out. You can wrap up warm in all manner of fancy winter golf clothing designed to protect you and keep you dry. Close your eyes and you might even think it’s still summer, the performance of the gear is that good.

The off season is a perfect time to implement a swing change as well. Use the time wisely & you could fix that wild block right in time for the new season. It comes around quickly & we all know how long it can take before a change becomes second nature. When you pull on your next season golf shirts & golf shorts, you’ll be ready to go low if you’ve practised hard throughout the winter.

It is difficult to find the motivation after 5 long days in the office only to wake up on Saturday looking forward to your 18 holes of course and finding out the course is shut. Think long term though. These cold dark winter nights quickly pass. You’ll be walking down the warm sunny fairways in your brand spanking new tartan golf trousers before you know it. Put in the time and you’ll reap the rewards with noticeable improvements in your game.

On the days the course IS open, get out there and enjoy. The ball may not travel as far and you may have the odd shower but there are plenty of worse things you could be doing. Go long & go low.
